BIOGRAPHY

BEN WEIR
Profile Photo BW_edited.jpg

I have 20 years of experience in the film, advertising, events, marketing and production industries.

From visiting film sets at the age of 7 to grab the autograph of an actor mum assured me was famous, to writing scripts and directing talent in the Victorian alps, to presiding over the brand refresh of a global technology firm in preparation for their successful IPO - I've seen and done a fair bit. The side effect is that I have a unique set of skills.

I guess I'm what you call a creative generalist. I will analyse a situation and put forward strategic creative solutions that focus on the results you're looking for. Inspire your people, grow your brand, or sell more product - the aim of the game is always results.

One thing I'm particularly passionate about is a brand's tone of voice. It doesn't matter if I'm working as a marketing director, or a script writer, my responsibility is to ensure that we connect with our audience. The authenticity of your brand's tone of voice is a crucial ingredient in the success of the content we are creating. This is because tone projects purpose.

I believe that in the beginning, as at the end, it always comes down to whether you're telling a great story truthfully.

In addition to brand comms and strategic marketing direction, here are some of the areas I find myself involved in from time to time.

FILM & TV
Award-Winning Shorts, Commercials & Online.

I've been writing and making films since university. The Neighbour won some awards and screened overseas. Deadline 8:45 screened nationally and overseas.

I love writing and directing for a 30 or a 60 second time frame. Getting the best out of the actors I work with is definitely one of my strengths.

Making content that cuts above the clutter is my passion.

BRAND CONSULTING
Head of Marketing

As Head of Marketing for a global green-tech firm scaling up during COVID-19, I presided over: a brand refresh, the IPO launch, CRM campaigns, website redesigns, comprehensive comms campaigns, video case studies, and more. I loved the fast pace, and the opportunity to take a hands-on approach, maturing the brand to where it needed to be.

ANIMATION
Multiple brands and companies

Animation can be a great way to make the complex simple, open a show, explain the detail.

I've written and directed dozens of animations for finance, technology, social conscience and community-based initiatives.

Effective animation starts with a solid script and methodical process. That's where I come in.

BRANDED CONTENT
Toyota, Telstra, CBA, ANZ, OnePath

Applying the craft and values of smart production - speed, value and proper collaboration - to the corporate world has yielded incredible results.

Whether it's a one-off, or a series of 10 episodes, starting with a great idea and backing it up with a strong script is the key.

LIVE EVENTS
Spotify, National Australia Day Council, City of Sydney, Luxottica, Telstra, Target

Sydney New Year's Eve, The Australian of the Year Awards, a SAFIA show, Blue-chip Roadshows, workforce conferences... the list goes on.

An event should be an experience that changes you, forever.

CONTENT CREATION
Thinking Strategically and Creatively, Purpose-led communications

Let me help you discover what you want to say, who you want to say it to, and how you want to say it.

I've written more brand positioning statements, white papers, pitches and articles on a range of topics than you could poke a stick at.
